Miss India makes an impact at the Miss Universe contest
The Miss Universe 2008 pageant will be held in city of Nha Trang in Vietnam, on July 14. India is being represented in the contest by Simran Kaur Mundi.
As the date of the finals of the Miss Universe 2008 nears, we bring you snapshots of Miss India Simran Kaur Mundi clicked at various events during the contest. There is already a strong buzz about Simran making it! Check her out!
Ms Simran has already topped her group for the Best National Costume. All the contestants at the pageant were divided into nine groups, and the winners from each group will vie for the Best National Costume title, which - as a departure from the norm - would be selected after an online poll.
Apart from this, Ms Simran has also emerged among the top five in other sub-contests like the Swimwear Show and Ao Dai Show.
It’s that time of the year again. There is anxiety, there is excitement and there is also the oozing confidence of Pantaloons Femina Miss India Universe '08 Simran Kaur Mundi, cherry picked by a panel of judges, who is now set to battle it out for the Miss Universe crown in Vietnam. Its been months of hard work and slogging, not only by the beauty herself but also by her trainers and experts who took care of everything, right from her ramp walk to hair styling, wardrobe, nutrition, fitness and health care. So, while we keep our fingers crossed, here’s a look at what some of the experts think of the storehouse of beauty: Ritu Kumar (National costume, Indian wear): “Simran is not only tall, beautiful and nice to talk to, she is very confident too. She’s got a very good skin tone and that helps her carry off almost all colours and outfits very well. We had a number of fittings for her costume and now I’ve got an understanding of what kind of colours she is fond of and what suits her,” says designer Ritu Kumar. “Her ensemble consists of a panelled skirt, a short blouse, and two odhinis or viels. One of these is worn over the shoulder and the other one covers the head to give the ensemble a regal look. It is accessorised with antiqued kundan jewellery, bangles and flowers,” she adds. So what does she think are Simran’s chances of winning? “With someone as tall as her, there’s a fair chance of winning.

Making it to the top 10 will be like a cake-walk for her.” Deanne Pandey (Fitness Expert): “When Simran came to me, she had a very thin body and needed to gain weight. So, she was put on a weight regime for two months where she had to eat healthy and exercise regularly. I had been seeing her in bikinis for many weeks and when I saw her in a swimsuit before she left for Vietnam, her body had toned down a lot!” says fitness expert Deanne Pandey with a ready word of advice, “It’s taken her a lot of hard work to gain that weight and she must not lose it as it makes her body look fuller.” But will Simran’s hard work pay off? “She has a very strong chance of winning. If she continues to have the confidence she has in her, then she should win it. She already looks like a Miss Universe to me!” Deanne, who got along very well with Simran during those two months can’t stop telling what a wonderful person Simran is. “She is very friendly, confident, and a child-like quality about her. But it is her height that gives her the edge over others contestants. I sent her a text today but she hasn’t replied yet. I guess she’s very busy with the preparations now,” she says.
