Today, kisses have become a common element of cinema. Gone are the days when the audiences used to raise eyebrows when stars smooched onscreen. Also gone are the days when smooches were substituted by pecking pigeons or fondling flowers. Today it’s more open and evident and the filmmakers want it to be that way. Is that what you call realistic cinema?

Nevertheless the kiss wasn’t always as acceptable as it is received with a casual outlook today. The kiss has created its share of controversy in Bollywood and many celebrities have become both famous and infamous for their intimate acts. We list down those kisses which resulted into huge controversies in Bollywood.

Kareena Kapoor – Shahid Kapoor

It was the time when Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor were madly in love. And their madness was captured by the paparazzi when the two lost in love and seemingly inebriated indulged in a tongue-twister in a pub. The pictures were publicly flashed on tabloid front-pages and the candid MMS became the talk of the town. Both the Kapoors claimed the video to be doctored but people didn’t buy the reasons.

Mallika Sherawat – Himanshu Malik

The name Mallika Sherawat is synonymous to smooch. She first gained recognition as the girl who kissed costar Himanshu Malik ‘17-times’in the film Khwahish . The 17 kisses were the only memorable element about the film. Perhaps it was the first time that audiences actually sat down to count the number of kisses in a film. Post that, one question that Mallika had to face often in an interview was that ‘how many kisses does your film include?” And the actress never disappointed her audiences kissing continuously in all her films. In fact her recent film ‘ Ugly aur Pagli ’ was promoted on the kiss count with a tagline that said ‘99 slaps – 1 kiss’.

Pooja Bhatt – Mahesh Bhatt

Mahesh Bhatt was supposed to be the king of controversies in the 80s and 90s. In one such scandalous act, Mahesh Bhatt shot for a magazine cover with daughter Pooja Bhatt. What’s so wrong about it, you might question. Well the father-daughter duo was indulged in a lip-to-lip kiss which was considered as quite a bold act by the duo.

Rakhi Sawant – Mika

This could be touted as more of a publicity stunt than anything. Rakhi Sawant was invited by Mika to his birthday party. No sooner did Mika cut the cake, he smooches Rakhi Sawant in ecstasy and the media shutterbugs went gaga over the kiss. Rakhi took this as a good opportunity to gain media attention since she knew how much furore a kiss can create in India. She went ballistic complaining about Mika’s act.

Shilpa Shetty – Richard Gere

Now this episode is one of the most recent ones. Shilpa Shetty was at a social event to preach safe sex to truck drivers in India and spreading awareness about HIV AIDS. Richard Gere who is an international ambassador for the cause joined Shilpa on the stage. Soon he publicly embraced Shilpa and also kissed her more than once as a staged act. This didn’t go down well with Indian fundamentalists who protested against Shilpa Shetty and burned her effigies.

Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole’s brunette locks have topped a new poll of ‘Best Celebrity Hairstyles’.

The X Factor judge topped a survey of some 2,000 women. Victoria Beckham’s short cut came second while model Kelly Brook third.

"It’s no surprise to us that Cheryl’s hair came out on top. There is something very attractive about gorgeous glossy hair,” Contact music quoted top hairdresser Trevor Sorbie, who commissioned the poll, as saying.

"I also love Victoria’s new Hair Style. It’s a great example of our daring British spirit - never afraid to try something new," he added.

Fashion to me is… an extension of one’s personality. It reveals one’s own style of dressing but it is important to go with what suits you best.

Brands that I count on... Ritu Kumar, Alley.

At home, you would find me lounging in... jeans and T-shirt.

My gym wear is... tracks and top.

Formal look to me is... gowns, sarees, western wear; I am an extreme kinda person. I go with my moods and what suits me best.

Casual look for me is… jeans and white T-shirt.

My party ensemble is... it depends on the kind of party whether formal or casual; I am generally not a party person. I rather prefer getting together with friends and having fun.

My classic style statement is… suits and gowns.

Indian designers that I follow… Ritu Kumar, Hemant Trivedi, Manish Malhotra.

The ultimate style icon to me is… none! Everybody has his or her own style and need to wear what suits them best.

A must-have in my purse is… my iPod, credit card.

My party look for the season is… I have no clue; I just recently got out of the ‘Bigg Boss’ show and have not been exposed to the world for quite some time.

The perfume, which is my signature statement… Angel & Demon.

The colours of this season… white, red

I’m a fashion junkie when it comes to… my comfort level is what matters to me and nothing else.

My favourite designer is… Kawali, Armani for the best cuts.

My most expensive dress is… I can’t remember; I feel blessed to buy whatever I like.

My most embarrassing fashion faux pas is… I have been through that a lot of times. I’m talking about whenever I wear sarees; I just cannot handle sarees the right way and for some reason, they keep falling off. It feels really weird but by now I am kind of used to it.

My fashion statement for the season is… ‘be comfortable’.

The debut 'Made in India' awards were given to the duo for being the best designers in Indian and Western wear respectively at a function held in New Delhi late Friday evening.

The event was attended by all the big names in the fashion industry as well as actress Tabu.

The awards, modelled on the 'Prix d'Excellence de la Mode' awards instituted by French magazine group Marie Claire internationally, is aimed at saluting designers who have promoted Indian textile or craft or used India as a muse in their creations.

It’s that time of the year again. One of these is worn over the shoulder and the other one covers the head to give the ensemble a regal look. It is accessorised with antiqued kundan jewellery, bangles and flowers,” she adds. So what does she think are Simran’s chances of winning? “With someone as tall as her, there’s a fair chance of winning.

Making it to the top 10 will be like a cake-walk for her.” Deanne Pandey (Fitness Expert): “When Simran came to me, she had a very thin body and needed to gain weight. So, she was put on a weight regime for two months where she had to eat healthy and exercise regularly. I had been seeing her in bikinis for many weeks and when I saw her in a swimsuit before she left for Vietnam, her body had toned down a lot!” says fitness expert Deanne Pandey with a ready word of advice, “It’s taken her a lot of hard work to gain that weight and she must not lose it as it makes her body look fuller.” But will Simran’s hard work pay off? “She has a very strong chance of winning. If she continues to have the confidence she has in her, then she should win it. She already looks like a Miss Universe to me!” Deanne, who got along very well with Simran during those two months can’t stop telling what a wonderful person Simran is. “She is very friendly, confident, and a child-like quality about her. But it is her height that gives her the edge over others contestants. I sent her a text today but she hasn’t replied yet. I guess she’s very busy with the preparations now,” she says.

"Isha told us that a call from the organisers was followed by her agent in the US, Simone Sheffield, who she shares with Aishwarya Rai. Initially, Isha wasn't sure whether she was actually being asked or someone was playing a prank on her."Thus Isha becomes the first Bollywood actress to judge the contest.Isha will be wearing a Roberto Cavalli creation for the occasion.Interestingly, Cavalli, who had also designed a gown for Aishwarya Rai for a red carpet event at the Cannes Film Festival, called Isha up himself and told her that he wanted her to wear his outfit.In fact, Cavalli may be seated close to Isha during the event as well.Manish Malhotra too has designed an evening gown for her for the final event. And yes, there will be Jerry Springer who is hosting the show whom Isha is expecting to meet.Isha, who was last seen in the flop "One Two Three", also has films like Atul Agnihotri's "Hello", Subhash Ghai's "Hello Darling", Jahnu Barua's "Har Pal" and then, of course, Ram Gopal Varma's "Shabri" and Sooraj Barjatya's "Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi", which release this year.
